With AI Growing, isn’t SEO dead now?

No.

That’s it. End of blog post.

Ok… I’ll expand.

Every few years, everyone declares that SEO is dead. The culprit changes each time: social media, voice search, zero-click results, and now, AI tools like Google’s AI Overviews and ChatGPT. But here’s the reality: SEO isn’t dead. It’s evolving. Just like it always has.

AI Tools Are Still Search Engines in Disguise

Think about it. Whether it’s Google’s AI Overviews summarizing top content or ChatGPT giving direct answers, these tools still rely on one fundamental thing: content from websites. They don’t magically invent knowledge (at least not accurate knowledge). They index, crawl, read, and summarize information that businesses and creators publish online.

That means SEO remains critical. If your website isn’t optimized, structured clearly, and publishing relevant, valuable content, AI tools won’t find it – and won’t include your brand in their responses.

People Still Click Through

Even when AI gives a summary, people often want to:

  • Verify the source. They want to make sure it’s credible.
  • Learn more deeply. A quick summary rarely answers nuanced questions fully.
  • Take action. Whether it’s booking a service, purchasing a product, or reading related insights, users still click through to websites to act.

If anything, AI makes your website content more important. Why? Because tools like ChatGPT and Google AI are essentially superpowered search engines that prefer clear, authoritative, and well-structured websites when summarizing.

SEO Evolves, It Doesn’t Die

SEO today isn’t just about ranking #1 in Google’s organic results. It’s about:

  • Optimizing for AI visibility. Structured content, clear answers, and authoritative insights are favored by AI tools summarizing data.
  • Owning your brand presence across platforms. AI engines reference public data, reviews, mentions, and your own website content to build their responses.
  • Creating user-focused content. The more helpful and thorough your information is, the more AI tools and human visitors will trust and use it.

Embrace AI as Part of Your SEO Strategy

Instead of fearing AI overviews or ChatGPT, see them as additional places where your brand can show up. Just like featured snippets or zero-click answers, these tools present an opportunity to build brand awareness, credibility, and authority – all of which ultimately drive people to your website when they’re ready to dig deeper or take action.

The Bottom Line

SEO isn’t dead. It never was. It’s simply shifting alongside technology and user behavior. As long as people search for information, products, and services online, SEO will remain essential. AI tools are the next evolution in how people find what they’re looking for – and optimizing for them is just another chapter in the SEO playbook.

What is SEO, and why do I need it?

SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is the process of improving your website so it ranks higher in search engine results, making it easier for potential customers to find your business online. Without SEO, even the best-designed website can be virtually invisible to your ideal audience.
